How to apply ownership tag remediation safely

Use required-tag policies and dry-run remediation to improve allocation quality so savings ownership remains provable.

Back to How To Guides

Baseline Policy

Start with required tags such as `owner`, `cost_center`, `environment`. Save policy profile and refresh compliance to establish baseline metrics.

Remediation Process

  1. 1. Open the supporting Governance view and inspect `Missing By Tag` and top problem scopes.
  2. 2. Configure remediation tags and target scopes.
  3. 3. Run dry-run to preview touched resources and added entries.
  4. 4. Apply tags after review, then refresh compliance.

Safety Checks

  • Always run dry-run before bulk apply.
  • Target scopes explicitly if compliance drift is localized.
  • Capture action/audit evidence for each remediation cycle.

Success Criteria

  • Non-compliant resource count decreases after remediation.
  • Missing-by-tag values trend downward.
  • Cost owner and cost center attribution quality improves for receipt and chargeback workflows.
